Kelp (Bladder wrack) was the main source for iodine in the 18th century and was used extensively to relieve goiter. Kelp is employed in the therapy of hypo and hyper thyroidism and in relieving the absorption of radioactive emissions. It was claimed to counter obesity by stimulating the thyroid glands and increasing the metabolic rate. Kelp promotes a healthy thyroid and stimulates blood circulation. Through the regulation of thyroid function it is helpful in all the associated symptoms.
